Shaitan is the Islamic word for "Adversary". It could possibly be a derivation of Satan, in Islam known as Iblis. The adversary of Allah is called by this name or title in the Qur'an.

In Bosnian-Croatian-Serbian "sejtan" (pronounced Sheitan) means the devil/Luficer/satan. It is thought to be a Turkish word imported to the language, like many other words during the Ottoman rule.
