Heal flew out of Sydney on Thursday afternoon on his way to Belgrade and the FIBA Diamond Ball Tournament with the Boomers as part of the team's Athens Olympic preparations.
“Shane Heal is not only the most decorated and experienced player on the Boomer’s team, he is a role model within the team and emphasises the culture and the behaviour we want and expect from the player,” Boomers coach Brian Goorjian said when Heal was announced captain.
Heal first played in Australia’s NBL competition for the Brisbane Bullets in 1988 at the age of 18 and he took the spotlight in his debut year by winning the NBL Rookie of the Year award.
