Fundamental claim
The basis of Share International is the claim that Maitreya is not a religious leader(although he does plan to eventually establish a New World Religion bringing eastern and western traditions together), but rather an educator in the broadest sense of the word, whose coming signals the dawn of a golden age. Share International's publications claim that the coming of Maitreya fulfills not only Buddhist prophecies about the appearance of a future great teacher, but also the prophecies of a number of other world religions- including Christianity (the second coming of Christ), Hinduism (the Kalki avatar of Vishnu), Islam (the Imam Mahdi) and Judaism (the Jewish messiah). A replica of an ancient statue found among the ruins of a temple at Sarnath Buddhism is a philosophy based on the teachings of the Buddha, SiddhÄrtha Gautama, a prince of the Shakyas, whose lifetime is traditionally given as 566 to 486 BCE. It had subsequently been accepted by...

Anti-Christ? According to Benjamin Creme of Share International, the Anti-Christ is not a person but a distinctly evil and destructive energy that worked through Adolf Hitler and in earlier times through Nero. According to Creme, Maitreya, who claims that he is the promised saviour of every religion, is the new Christ. He says we should "Share and save the world". Maitreya also calls for a permanent end to war and political corruption. He has called for international co-operation and diplomacy rather than war & violence, and for the end of the attempts to commercialize the world. Maitreya also plans to eventually establish a New World Religion bringing eastern and western traditions together. There are Christian pastors who see Maitreya as the awaited Anti-Christ. They believe that Maitreya is The Anti-Christ because Maitreya denies that Jesus was the Son of God and claims to embody the the Christ as the New Testament book of the bible says that a man in the New Age would. "Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are raving wolves." Matthew 7:15 "Take heed that no man deceive you. For many will come in my name, saying, I AM CHRIST, and will deceive many" Matt 24:4-5 "Then if any man shall say to you, here is the Christ or there is the Christ, believe it not. For there shall arise false Christs and false prophets, and they shall show great signs and wonders, insomuch, that if it were possible they shall deceive even the very elect. Behold, I have told you before" Matthew 24:24-25. Christians also point to the fact that the name Maitreya equates to 666 in the Hebrew language as described in Revelations 13:18.

Creme has said that he has been in contact since 1982 with an intelligence known only as 'the Master'. Share International claims that Maitreya appeared in a Christ-like form before a gathered crowd in Nairobi, Kenya in June of 1988. Pictures from that event show a bearded Middle Eastern or South Asian man in a white robe and turban, carrying what appears to be a fly-whisk. This appearance is said to be only one of many different kinds, as he has also been said to have spoken to many other groups or individuals in various guises and speaking different languages. Underlying beliefs On the official website of the organization, a question and answer section mentions "masters of wisdom", and says "In modern times the major expression of these teachings was given through Helena Petrovna Blavatsky, one of the founders of the Theosophical Society, between 1875 and 1890. Her book The Secret Doctrine is the preparatory phase of the teachings given for the new cosmic cycle which we are now entering - we call it the Age of Aquarius. A later phase was given through an English disciple, Alice A. Bailey(founder of the Lucifer Trust, now the Lucis Trust), between 1919 and 1949, by a Tibetan Master, Djwhal Khul, and this is seen as the intermediate phase of the teachings. Between 1924 and 1939, a further body of teachings - the Agni Yoga teachings - was given through another Russian disciple, Helena Roerich. These Ageless Wisdom teachings are the means by which humanity is kept informed of its essential divinity and of its journey of evolution toward perfection."
