Moore was born to a mother of Dutch descent and an African-American father. As a child, Moore lived in the Netherlands with his mother. His first language is Dutch and he didn't learn to speak English until he was five years old. His mother, who had a degree in mathematics, worked as a teacher in Bahrain for several years.
