RabbiShemaryahu Gurary (d. 1989) is the son-in-law of Rabbi Joseph Isaac Schneersohn (1880- 1950), the sixth Rebbe of Chabad-Lubavitch chassidic movement. He married Chana, the senior daughter of the Rebbe. Upon the death of his father-in-law He was considered a candidate to Succeed him, but ceded his rights to Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson in 1950 and became the latter's follower. Rabbi Gurary was the director of Yeshiva Tomchei Temimim in America. His son Barry disputed his father's decision, especially in reference to Chabad's rare books.
