Sherman County is a county located in the state of Nebraska. As of 2000, the population is 3,318. Its county seat is Loup City6.
Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,481 km˛ (572 mi˛). 1,466 km˛ (566 mi˛) of it is land and 15 km˛ (6 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 1.01% water.
Demographics As of the census2 of 2000, there are 3,318 people, 1,394 households, and 935 families residing in the county. The population density is 2/km˛ (6/mi˛). There are 1,839 housing units at an average density of 1/km˛ (3/mi˛). The racial makeup of the county is 98.49% White, 0.06% Black or African American, 0.21% Native American, 0.24% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.42% from other races, and 0.54% from two or more races. 1.02% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,394 households out of which 27.60% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.20% are married couples living together, 5.70% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.90% are non-families. 30.40% of all households are made up of individuals and 16.70% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.34 and the average family size is 2.91.
