Island Line platforms

  • Platform 1: Island Line to Chai Wan
  • Platform 2: Island Line westbound termination platform

These are side platforms built along Des Voeux Road from Cleverly Street to Rumsey Street. Platform 1 serves Chai Wan-bound trains. Platform 2 is an exit-only platform at the end of the Island Line. Although platforms 1 and 2 are parallel to each other and are on opposite sides, there is a wall separating the two tracks. This gives passenegers the false impression that the two platforms are on different levels. They are located near Exit E, and they are perpendicular to the Island Line platforms below. East Kowloon Line was one of the original five MTR lines proposed in the late 1960s in Hong Kong, which connects Sheung Wan with East Kowloon, and subsequently extended to Sha Tin. ...

At present time, the Rumsey Station platforms are incomplete platforms. They have a length of about three MTR EMUs (while normal trains have eight each), do not have tracks and overhead power lines, and with all the tunnel entrances sealed with bricks. It is widely believed that these are the most mysterious platforms in Hong Kong, with many people wondering what the Rumsey Street platforms are doing in Sheung Wan station. The abandoned platforms give people a haunted feeling, somewhat augmented by the constant "dong" noise emitted from the escalators, a guidance signal for the blind people.
