The shillelagh is a gaelic war club made of Blackthorn Oak. There are actually two shillelaghs, the first having been retired due to the fact that it was completely covered in trojan heads and shamrocks. This original trophy was carved from a blackthorn bough flown in from Ireland by Howard Hugh's personal pilot. The retired shillelagh is permanently displayed at Notre Dame, as they had won more of the games during the period it represents.
