Shinjuku (新宿区; -ku) is one of the special wards of Tokyo, Japan.
Shinjuku is home to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, Tokyo's tallest building, where political and public administration of Tokyo takes place.
Shinjuku Ward is also home to Waseda University, the Yakult Swallows baseball team, and a barracks of the Japan Self-Defense Forces.
Located in the commercial centre of Shinjuku ward (although the southern part extends into Shibuya ward) it is served by a multitude of JR, private and underground (subway) lines.
Shinjuku is the busiest train station in the world, as well as the second-largest (after Nagoya Station) when measured by area.
Shinjuku was still a quiet community at the time and the station was not heavily trafficked at first.
