Shmi and Anakin's planet of origin is not mentioned in the first film, only that they came to Tatooine when Anakin was three. [2] Shmi is portrayed as a loving and devoted mother who does not question the necessity of her son leaving after he won his freedom in a pod race. Shmi and her son (who was conceived entirely by midi-chlorians -- he had no father, similar to virgin birth). It is possible that Darth Plagueis influenced the midichlorians to make Anakin. After Anakin won his freedom, Shmi would not see her son for 10 years.
