The two were made for each other — Kenner doesn't appreciate American culture, while Johnny doesn't much like Japanese culture. One thing they both enjoy are the martial arts, of which they are both experts.

The two are assigned to L. A.'s Little Tokyo, where they break up some criminal activity in a Japanese restaurant, and an arrest is made. While Kenner and Johnny are questioning the suspect, Kenner loses his temper and rips the suspect's shirt, and the tattoos that Kenner sees on the suspect remind Kenner of when he was 9-years-old, a time when he witnessed his parents getting killed by a member of the Yakuza (organized crime in Japan). When Kenner and Johnny go to a Japanese nightclub to look for information, they are ambushed and taken to see the nightclub's owner -- and Kenner recognizes the owner as Yoshida (Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa), the man who killed his parents. Yoshida is now the leader of the Iron Claw clan, and he's also a drug manufacturer using a local brewery as his distribution center. Yoshida has brought the people of Little Tokyo to their knees, and the people of Little Tokyo would like to be rid of him.

Kenner and Johnny escape from the night club. When Yoshida rapes and kidnaps lounge singer Minako Okeya (Tia Carrere) and vows to kill Kenner, Kenner and Johnny set out for Yoshida's heavily guarded home, where they rescue Minako. Goofs

  • When Dolph supposedly jumps over the car in the opening shoot-out, you can very clearly see the springboard used to propel him into the air.
  • The Yakuza who kills himself in the interrogation room can be seen later in the film when Yoshida is "interrogating" Angel.
  • When Angel walks up to Yoshida to take his shirt off, they're both about 1 meter or so away from the table. When Yoshida turns Angel around, they're both on the table's edge, despite not moving from their spot.
  • During the scene where a Yakuza is about to be crushed by a car compacter, he is obviously replaced by a very cheap-looking dummy.
  • There is a close-up on the almost-naked Angel in the scene where Yoshida is about to behead her after fondling her from behind. Then there is a split-second focus on Yoshida's face as he swings the sword -- which then lands on the head of what is very obviously a mannequin.
  • At one point, Dolph sneaks up on a Yakuza and breaks his neck, but as he is lowering him quietly to the ground, the supposedly dead guy reaches up and grabs Dolph's arm -- presumably to keep from falling too hard.
  • In one scene where Dolph and Brandon are fighting at the restaurant. Brandon is wearing black pants, In another scene he isn't wearing any pants

Trivia

  • When complimented on his house, Dolph responds by saying "I built it".
  • Tia Carrere's nude scenes were apparently performed by a body double.

'Showdown in Little Tokyo' has such modest ambitions that you don't want to rag on it too hard.
Director Mark Lester has visual fun contrasting the fairy-tale colors of the Little Tokyo streets at night with the gray-brown grungy interior of a boxing ring in Chapter 2, which also brings on the first volley of gunfire.
There plenty of energy and inventiveness in the violence throughout 'Showdown': there's a suicide by surprising means in Chapter 4, a vigorous bathhouse brawl in Chapter 12 and a Saturday-afternoon-serial set of perils for the heroes in Chapter 17.
