Shrewsbury Township is a township located in Monmouth County, New Jersey. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 1,098.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²). 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the census² of 2000, there are 1,098 people, 521 households, and 254 families residing in the township. The population density is 4,710.4/km² (11,624.7/mi²). There are 546 housing units at an average density of 2,342.4/km² (5,780.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 66.76% White, 16.67% African American, 0.00% Native American, 10.02% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 2.82% from other races, and 3.73% from two or more races. 6.65% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 521 households out of which 24.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 28.6% are married couples living together, 16.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 51.1% are non-families. 39.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.10 and the average family size is 2.89.

In the township the population is spread out with 20.6% under the age of 18, 9.3% from 18 to 24, 37.8% from 25 to 44, 21.5% from 45 to 64, and 10.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 93.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 90.0 males.
