Sierra Highway is a road in Southern California, United States. It runs from Tunnel Station near the north limit of the City of Los Angeles, where it intersects with San Fernando Road and Foothill Boulevard, as well as Interstate 5, and continues north to Mojave, mostly paralleling State Route 14 (the Antelope Valley Freeway). Formerly, except for the segment between its west junction with Soledad Canyon Road in Santa Clarita and Ward Road in Acton, it was State Route 14. Previous to July, 1964, the part of Sierra Highway identified in the preceding was signed US 6. Previous to the late 1950s or early 1960s, Sierra Highway was signed US 6 in its entirety. My name is David L. Fiorella. I use to drive a vehicle for a telecommunication company known as General Telephone of California. (GTE). Today the name of the company is known as Verizon Inc. I also vacationed in many areas of the west. Northern Nevada; Northern Arizona; Western New Mexico; Northern California. THE SIERRA HIGHWAY was known as U.S. Highway 6 which was true of all facts. The highway was also known as THE GRAND ARMY OF THE REPUBLIC HIGHWAY at one time.
THE SIERRA HIGHWAY is also so-named in the northern reaches of Bishop, California. The highway designation in this area of Bishop under the Sierra Highway is U.S. Highway 395. The highway nearest the Piute Indian Casino northeast of Bishop.
U.S. Highway 6 in this area is known as the GRAND ARMY OF THE REPUBLIC HIGHWAY going toward Benton Station and Tonapah, Nevada. U.S. 6 as you well known as truncated at the northern reaches of Bishop at the junction with U.S. 395. Before 1964; U.S.6/U.S. 395 were cosigned together southward from Bishop. Today; sadly U.S. 6 has been cut short because of this truncated procedure.
Thank You for letting me write this update. Please check maps of Bishop for the Sierra Highway extention for the northern reaches of Bishop, California. (U.S. 395)
Merry Christmas to you and your families for 2007!
