The Sig-Sauer P239 is a semi-automatic pistol designed for "personal protection". It is offered in 3 calibers: 9mm, .357SIG, and .40S&W.
With an overall length of 6.6 in. and height of 5.2 in., and weighing approx. 25-27 oz. empty (depending on caliber), the P239 has become quite popular in the United States as a concealed carry pistol. Magazine capacity is 8 rounds (9mm) or 7 rounds (.357SIG or .40S&W).
The actions available are double action only (DAO) or double/single action (DA/SA). Like all SIG semi-automatic pistols, the P239 features a decocking lever that allows full safe carry with a round in the chamber with a DA/SA action. This means the first round can be fired only by a positive trigger pull and with a classically long double action trigger pull. Subsequent rounds will be in single action mode, with the pistol using recoil to cock the pistol automatically.
Technically it is similar to P228 compact gun, and differs only in size and magazine: while P228 has a dual-stack magazine for 12 rounds, P239 has a single-stack magazines for 7 or 8 rounds (depending on caliber).
P239 is a blowback-operated, locked breech design, with modified Browning-style linkless locking via slide ejection port.
P239 is reliable like all its bigger brothers from P22x family, and very accurate for its small size.
The SIGP239 is a semi-automatic pistol designed and manufactured in Switzerland by Swiss Arms AG (formerly SIG Arms AG (distributed in United States by the SIGARMS).
The P239 is the first SIG chambered for the.357 SIG round, and to increase its durability it was made with a one-piece slide.
Other SIGs have a separate breechblock that is pinned into the slide, a feature that is unique to SIG among pistol manufacturers.
