The Silver Badge Party was a small, right-wing group in Britain. It was founded by Noel Pemberton-Billing, the independent MP for East Hertfordshire in about 1918 and contested the 1918 UK general election. Aiming for the support of ex-soldiers, it gained almost 80,000 votes but only Pemberton-Billing won a seat. The badge was fire gilded brass with the metal edges, letters and highlights in the enamel center silvered.

These badges are now reported to have come out of Austria in the early to mid-1980s, and at least one collector has reported purchasing them as acknowleged fakes at that time from a dealer's large stock.
This badge set caused friction between Moore and DC - the publisher claimed that they were a "promotional item" and not merchandising, and therefore DC did not pay Moore or Gibbons any royalties from the sale of the sets.
The last straw came when producer Joel Silver misquoted (Moore claims this was a deliberate falsehood) Moore at a press conference announcing production of a film based on V for Vendetta, produced by Warner Brothers (which also owns DC Comics).
Silver stated that producer Larry Wachowski had talked with Moore, and that "he [Moore] was very excited about what Larry had to say."
