Silver City was founded in 1864 soon after silver was discovered at nearby War Eagle Mountain. The first newspaper and telegraph office in Idaho Territory were established in Silver City. The town was also among the first places in Idaho to receive electric and telephone service. After the mines were played out around the time Idaho became a state in 1890, and due in part to its extremely remote location, Silver City began a slow decline a but was never completely abandoned. His love of the Hotel and the history of SilverCity was unsurpassed by none.
Even at that time, the city still had six general stores, two hotels, a newspaper, two lumber yards and several doctors and lawyers and, of course, its "Virgin Alley." It is said one married man was added to the population above Slaughter House Gulch by his wife.
SilverCity can be found just east of the Oregon Idaho border in the Jordan Valley.
Ruby City was the original county seat, but lost this title to the 2 year old SilverCity in 1866.

The elevation of SilverCity is 6,300 feet and due to heavy snowfalls, the roads that lead to SilverCityIdaho are only accessible from late May through early November.
