Siren is a town located in Burnett County in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 873. The Village of Siren is located within the town.


Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 93.2 km˛ (36.0 mi˛). 81.4 km˛ (31.4 mi˛) of it is land and 11.8 km˛ (4.6 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 12.69% water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 873 people, 378 households, and 266 families residing in the town. The population density is 10.7/km˛ (27.8/mi˛). There are 717 housing units at an average density of 8.8/km˛ (22.8/mi˛). The racial makeup of the town is 97.14% White, 0.11% Black or African American, 1.60% Native American, 0.11% Asian, 0.11% Pacific Islander, 0.11% from other races, and 0.80% from two or more races. 0.92% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 378 households out of which 25.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.4% are married couples living together, 7.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.4% are non-families. 23.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.31 and the average family size is 2.68.


In the town the population is spread out with 21.9% under the age of 18, 4.8% from 18 to 24, 22.8% from 25 to 44, 29.9% from 45 to 64, and 20.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 45 years. For every 100 females there are 107.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 106.0 males.


The median income for a household in the town is $36,397, and the median income for a family is $40,781. Males have a median income of $31,726 versus $20,179 for females. The per capita income for the town is $19,434. 6.1% of the population and 2.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 9.8% of those under the age of 18 and 3.2% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
