Systems in the Sirius sector:
Alpha: The Alpha or Alpha Centauri system, advanced on occasion as the location of human origins. It was probably uninhabited and largely forgotten by the rest of the Empire through most of its history.
Arcturus: The capital of the Sirius Sector at one point, and later of the Arcturus sector. It was also advanced (most notably by a scholar named Lameth) as the location of human origins.
Aurora: The most dominant of the Spacer worlds, and the first one settled. It was the second oldest planet in the galaxy after Earth, and was in fact Tau Ceti. All of the Spacer worlds were largely abandoned and forgotten through the course of galactic history.
Comporellon: Apparently largely ignored in galactic history, Comporellon was a cold world, and the oldest not settled by the Spacers. One of its greatest points of national pride was its myths of ancientness.
Fomalhaut: About 25 lightyears from Earth. Its inhabitants spoke a dialect of Galactic standard speech very different from the standard.
Sirius: The capital system, and one that was advanced as an the location of human origins. Between 800-900 G.E., a planet in the Sirius System was one of the ten most populated planets in the Galaxy.
Smitheus: A Spacer planet.
Solaria: The last Spacer world to be settled, and the first to die.
Tyrann: A powerful system during the early stages of exploration, it lay about 150 parsecs (500 lightyears) from Earth. It was afflicted with global water dearth.

In 2005, using the Hubble Space Telescope, astronomers determined Sirius B to be 12,000km (7,500 miles) in diameter, with a mass that is 98% of the Sun.
Sirius was worshipped as Sothis in the valley of the Nile long before Rome was founded, and many ancient Egyptian temples were oriented so that light from the star could penetrate to their inner altars.
Sirius was commonly thought to cause madness in 18th century England, and is alluded to in John Dryden's religious and political satire Absalom and Achitophel, in the context of showing that it would plainly be mad to think that Charles II should "displease" the English people (LL.333-334).
