The Skewbald horse has a coat made up of brown and grey patches, on top of either pink or black skin. It is similar in appearance to the piebald and oddbald horses.
Similar to the piebald and oddbald, these colours are now no longer in common use in the UK and are more correctly referred to as Coloured.

When describing a horse which is a skewbald, (there are others known as "Ovaro"), Piebald, or Tobiano, the horse is often just called a "coloured", or "paint".
In the words Piebald and Skewbald, the "bald" part means "painted".
There are also "paint" colourings known as bay skewbald (bay horse with white patches), and dun skewbald (dun horse with white patches).
