The name

The municipality (originally the parish) is named after the farm Skodje (Old Norse Sköðvin), since the first church was built there. The meaning of the first element is unknown, the last element is vin f 'meadow, pasture'. Geography

Skodje borders Haram and Vestnes to the north, Ørskog to the east, and the city of Ålesund to the west. Across the Storfjorden to the south is the municipality of Sykkylven. Skodje mostly has agriculture and foresting, but there is also industry, lumber, and furniture-industry located there. Some relocated from Ålesund. The roads of E 39 and E 136 runs through the kommune of Skodje. Skodje has a young population, where 60% of the people are under the age of 40. Skodje Bridge (Skodje bru) is a bridge that crosses Straumen in Skodje municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway.
It is a steel arch bridge, 290 metres long.
For the last few years before the new bridge was opened, the old bridge got restrictions on the weight and width of the cars, and that meant that heavier traffic had to take a longer road through the town of Skodje.
