Around the lake, there are some higher mountains like for example Skarðsheiði. People are often surprised when they see the shores of the lake: There is a lot of smaller and bigger forests. They are due to a governmental program of reforestation. For consequence, the valley is looking a bit like some regions in the Alps, for example near Salzburg in Austria.
The lke is also a reservoir so that the level of the water surface has been lifted. But that was not very good for the fish in the lake, a lot of them died suddenly.
There are no villages on the shores, but a lot of weekend huts.
Lake Skorradalsvatn is located in Skorradalur in Borgarfjarðarsýsla.
Distance from ReykjavÃk is 85 km (53 miles), if you go through a place called "Dragháls" also it is possible through "Hvanneyri "which is a right turn just before you arrive to Borgarnes.
