Sky Harbor has been operating since prior to 1935, when it was purchased by the city of Phoenix. In the 1950s it was serviced by four airline companies. Today, it serves as a hub for America West Airlines (now US Airways), as well as one of the largest departure points for Dallas based Southwest Airlines and is trying to become another international airport in the Southwest region. Sky Harbor International Airport has three terminals, which are numbered 2, 3 and 4, since Terminal 1 (the original terminal from the 1950s) was torn down in 1990 (Sky Harbor states that Terminal 1 has been "retired", similar to the number of a famous athlete).
