Timeline - May 1, 1952: Express "Kaiungō" begins operation non-stop from Keisei Ueno to Keisei Narita. Seat reservation was mandatory
- 1953: Type 1600 trains begin operation as Kaiungō Expresses. At two cars per train, they were small but had reclining chairs and televisions, making it a luzurious train for its time.
- 1957: Type 1600 trains run as three-car trains. However, only one of those cars were actual Type 1600 cars.
- 1967: Type 1600 trains are replaced by Type 3150 and 3200 trains. The planned "Airport Express," in order to comply with subway specifications, was fitted with semi-cross seating.
- 1972: Type AE trains begin operation as the "Skyliner". The Kaiungō becomes the main train running during afternoons and holidays.
- December 30, 1973: Type AE trains begin running as Kaiungōs.
- Although the Skyliner's name was chosen, it wasn't announced soon enough and thus the first trains were shipped with the inscription "express". The Skyliner runs from Keisei Ueno to Keisei Narita nonstop.
- May 5, 1978: A Type AE train in the yard is put out of service due to arson by protesters against the construction of Narita Airport.
- May 21, 1978: The Skyliner begins nonstop runs from Keisei Ueno to Narita Airport Station at the same time that New Tokyo International Airport opens.
- Narita Airport Station, at the time, was at the present-day location of Higashi-Narita Station and was very far from Narita Airport Terminal 1. Thus passengers on the Skyliner had to get off and take a bus from Higashi-Narita Station to the airport. This inconvinience caused fewer passengers to take the Skyliner.
- September 1, 1979: The Skyliner begins stopping at Keisei Narita Station once a day during the afternoon.
- December 1, 1984: The "Evening Liner" begins operation
- October 19, 1985: The "Morning Liner" begins operation
- Trains begin making stops at Nippori Station
- 1988: All Skyliners begin making stops at Nippori Station
- 1990: With the introduction of the eight-car Type AE100, the seven six-car Type AE trains were rearranged to form five eight-car trains.
- March 19, 1991: Narita Airport Station is built right under Narita Airport and the Skyliner immediately begins service to the station.
- June 1993: The Type AE trains cease operations. All Skyliner trains become Type AE100 trains.
