Slayden, Tennessee - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (606 words)
Slayden is a town in Dickson County, Tennessee, United States.
Slayden's growth was spurred by the existence of a railroad line (the "Mineral Branch" of the Louisville and Nashville Railroad) which was built in the late 19th Century largely to assist the movement of iron from the nearby works at Cumberland Furnace to market.
In the early 20th century Slayden was home to a department store and was considered a major community of Dickson County.
Cumberland Furnace, Tennessee - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (660 words)
Cumberland Furnace, Tennessee is an unincorporated community in northern Dickson County, Tennessee largely immediately west of State Route 48.
It was the site of a large 19th century iron works, inititated by Nashville, Tennessee founder James Robertson and later operated by the "The Iron Master of Middle Tennessee", Montgomery Bell, among others.
A population for Cumberland Furnace is difficult to estimate, as it is neither an incorporated town nor a census-designated place, but the immediate area would seem to have a few hundred residents, while the area served by the Post Office, which included the nearby town of Slayden, Tennessee, would seem to be well over 1,000.
