History

Soap Lake was officially incorporated on June 9, 1919.

In 2002, the town announced preliminary plans to construct the world's largest lava lamp (60 feet in height) as a tourist attraction [1].

The actual lake in the town of Soap Lake is a mineral lake that has long been thought to have medicinal value. In fact, it is said that rival Indian Tribes would call a truce when they came to Soap Lake to relax and heal themselves and their animals. This is verifiable in recorded history and by the amount of Indian artifacts found in this area over the years.

Current facts to become history: The town is currently trying to revive itself by attempting to erect a giant Lava Lamp as a tourist attraction and by trying to revive the health aspect of the lake to attract the spa crowd. There are several people involved in this attempted revival and they have made "some" progress.

Also a town that is attractive because of its million dollar view of the basalt canyon known as the Grand Coulee and colorful politics and personalities to match.
