Socialist realism in Poland (or socrealizm) was introduced to People's Republic of Poland in force by Deputy Minister (later, Minister of Art and Culture) Włodzimierz Sokorski in 1949. As in all of the Eastern Bloc, socialist realism was supposed to be a major cultural and art movement backing Stalinization and spreading communist ideals. However it never became dominant in Poland in the long run, and together with destalinization increasing number of Polish artists started to move away from socrealism as early as 1955.
