Sōma (相馬市; -shi) is a city located in Fukushima, Japan.


As of 2003, the city has an estimated population of 38,726 and the density of 195.97 persons per kmē. The total area is 197.61 kmē.


The city was founded on March 31, 1954.

Soma is a ritual drink of importance in ancient proto-Hindu-Vedic (in India) and Persian culture.
The Rig-Veda (8.48) states, "We have drunk the Soma; we have become immortal; we have gone to the light; we have found the gods." The Ninth Mandala of the Rig Veda is known as the Soma Mandala.
In art the god Soma was depicted as a bull or bird, and sometimes as an embryo, but rarely as an adult human.
