Dempsey and Hyndman met at Padua College, Mornington Peninsula. Ashworth joined in 1998 after a distinguished career in the band Sandpit, turning down an offer to play with American band Hole. Hole was an alternative rock band formed in 1989 and (officially) disbanded in 2002. ...

On July 1, 2006 Something for Kate released "Desert Lights" which debuted at #1 on the ARIA charts. The band kept a studio diary of progress which is accessible at their official website [1]. It was while recording the album that lead singer Paul Dempsey tied the knot with bassist Ashworth. Importantly they have not used Trina Shoemaker as producer (they have worked with Brad Wood); Trina was responsible for much of the sound on their previous albums Echolalia and The Official Fiction, which some fans criticised for being too mellow.
