The Son'a are a space-faring race in the fictional Star Trek universe. They are actually an "offshoot" of the Ba'ku, a race of people seemingly identical in appearance to humans. While the Ba'ku long ago chose to reject advanced forms of technology such as warp drive, the beings that would eventually become the Son'a were belligerent towards this philosophy and left the Ba'ku homeworld bitterly, after attempting to forcefully take over the colony. The Enterprise boldly going where no man had gone before. ... The Enterprise-D goes into warp. ...


The Son'a are distinct in their appearance, as they often have cloaks covering their heads, along with skin that has been stretched over their faces. They use genetic manipulation in order to prolong their lives, and must constantly have manipulation/skin-folding sessions in order to survive.


It appears that the Son'a and Ba'ku represent two sides of one race; while the Ba'ku are peaceful and choose not to utilize advanced technology, the Son'a are rather hostile and embrace technology. The Son'a, as previous allies of the Cardassians, were militarily tied to their side in the Dominion War, and have been known to produce the narcotic Ketracel White, which implies that they also have economic ties to them Dominion. They travel on blade-shaped ships, which are rumored to be equipped with isolytic subspace weapons, which are dangerously unstable and were thus outlawed by the second Khitomer Accords. In addition to this, they have conquered two lesser races, the Tarlak and the Elora, and have long since integrated them into their culture as a labor class. In the fictional Star Trek universe, the Dominion is a Gamma Quadrant state, consisting of many different races. ... In the Star Trek universe, the Khitomer Accords comprised a treaty set down between the Klingon Empire, the United Federation of Planets and the Romulan Empire signed on the planet Khitomer in the year 2293. ...
