South Mumbai (also referred to as South Bombay) is a geographic region in the city of Mumbai, India. The area consists mainly of the city's business districts. It is the richest region in India.
South Mumbai lies in the southern peninsular region of the island of Salcette. The northern limit is unclear. Some say it is as far north as Dadar, some say it is only the business districts. The Lok Sabha constituency of South Bombay defines the northern limit up to Bombay Central only.
Infrastructure is well developed out here. Regular water supply, 24 hrs non stop electricity and smooth metalled roads contrast that of other cities in India. The main problem that the region faces is the acute shortfall of real estate. As a result, buying or renting an office in this region is among the highest in the world. In 1995, Nariman Point fetched the highest rental for a square foot of office space at 175$/sq foot. Today, the real estate prices that area are still among the top 10 in the world.
South Mumbai also has the city's cricket and hockey stadiums, as well as numerous maidans (sporting grounds).
He served both the towns of Fort Covington and Bombay as supervisor, was elected to the Assembly in 1822, became one of the judges of the court of common pleas for Franklin county in 1829, and was elected to Congress in 1830.
SouthBombay formerly had a hotel, which was the old homestead of Rufus Berry, built over by his son, Homer T., about 1869, and conducted by him for a time.
Bombay is no more populous to-day than it was three-quarters of a century ago, notwithstanding a considerable part of its area is as fine farming land as there is in the county.
Vatsa said the situation in the worst-affected region south of Bombay was improving as the rains had stopped and water levels were receding.
