South Mumbai

South Mumbai (also referred to as South Bombay) is a geographic region in the city of Mumbai, India. The area consists mainly of the city's business districts. It is the richest region in India.

South Mumbai lies in the southern peninsular region of the island of Salcette. The northern limit is unclear. Some say it is as far north as Dadar, some say it is only the business districts. The Lok Sabha constituency of South Bombay defines the northern limit up to Bombay Central only.

The richest region in India, South Bombay is home to the Reserve Bank of India and the Bombay Stock Exchange. Its primary business districts are Fort (area), Nariman Point and Ballard Pier. Most of India's companies are headquartered here, in these enclaves.

Infrastructure is well developed out here. Regular water supply, 24 hrs non stop electricity and smooth metalled roads contrast that of other cities in India. The main problem that the region faces is the acute shortfall of real estate. As a result, buying or renting an office in this region is among the highest in the world. In 1995, Nariman Point fetched the highest rental for a square foot of office space at 175$/sq foot. Today, the real estate prices that area are still among the top 10 in the world.

South Mumbai also has the city's cricket and hockey stadiums, as well as numerous maidans (sporting grounds).
