South Russell is a village located in Geauga County, Ohio. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 4,022.

South Russell is located at 41°25'56" North, 81°20'25" West (41.432175, -81.340201)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 10.0 km˛ (3.9 mi˛). 10.0 km˛ (3.8 mi˛) of it is land and 0.1 km˛ (0.04 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 0.77% water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 4,022 people, 1,364 households, and 1,159 families residing in the village. The population density is 403.4/km˛ (1,043.6/mi˛). There are 1,401 housing units at an average density of 140.5/km˛ (363.5/mi˛). The racial makeup of the village is 98.43% White, 0.35% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.80% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.42% from two or more races. 0.72% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 1,364 households out of which 47.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 77.6% are married couples living together, 5.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 15.0% are non-families. 13.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.95 and the average family size is 3.26.


In the village the population is spread out with 32.8% under the age of 18, 3.8% from 18 to 24, 23.7% from 25 to 44, 28.8% from 45 to 64, and 10.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 96.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 91.3 males.


The median income for a household in the village is $94,714, and the median income for a family is $103,174. Males have a median income of $84,783 versus $38,854 for females. The per capita income for the village is $41,091. 0.6% of the population and 0.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 0.0% of those under the age of 18 and 0.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

Russell Township was the last township settled in Geauga County.
In 1818, Gideon Russell, wife and children Ebenezer, William, Aipheus, Jemima and Sally moved into the thick woods of township number seven, range nine in the Connecticut Western Reserve on the rudimentary Chillicothe Road a little south of the center of the township.
South Russell Cemetery is located on Bell Road, west of Chillicothe Road, One half acre was purchased from S. Willard on November 15, 1849, for forty dollars.
South Russell Village (385 words)
The 1990 census found the population of South Russell to be 3,402 with 1,144 households.
Russell township was named in 1827 honoring the Gideon Russell family who were the first settlers.
South Russell separated from Russell Township and became incorporated in 1923.
