Population

85% of the population of the South-eastern Anatolia Region is Kurdish, a people of Indo - European stock, but more than 10% are Turkish (local people or recently settled). Freedom fighters and separatist movements are active in this area. Because of the difficult economic situation of the area, the region is a major source of emigration for the large western Turkish cities and for Europe.
