Southeastern University is a private, Christian, undergraduate and graduate institution of higher education located in Lakeland, Florida in the USA. It was established in 1935 as a Bible college, and became a liberal arts college in 1970. The University has formerly been known as South-Eastern Bible Institute (1935-1956), South-Eastern Bible College (1956-1977), and Southeastern College of the Assemblies of God (1977-2005). It is still affiliated with the Assemblies of God, a Protestant, Pentecostal denomination. Official enrollment for the 2006-07 academic year was 2,911 students representing 43 states and more than 20 foreign countries. More than 20 percent of the students are ethnic minorities. Students come from varied academic backgrounds. Before enrolling at Southeastern, students have attended public, private and Christian schools; others have been homeschooled. Southeastern offers 45 programs leading to bachelor's and master's degrees, including an MBA. All students are required to complete 54 hours of general education course work in addition to their major.
