Southlake is a city located primarily in the northeastern part of Tarrant County, Texas. A small northernly region of the city is in Denton County, United States. The population was 21,519 at the 2000 census. Southlake is well known for its Southlake Town Square project, a massive shopping center located on State Highway 114 and Southlake Boulevard. It is one of the most popular shopping centers in Tarrant County, especially when judged in proportion to the population of Southlake. A plan was approved in March 2005 that allowed the Town Square's area to be doubled. Sabre Holdings, an S&P 500 company and owner of Travelocity, is headquartered in Southlake. The Dallas Burn (now FC Dallas) were located in Southlake before and after moves to the Cotton Bowl. They moved again to Frisco, Texas in 2005. Dawson Middle School, named for George Dawson, a man who learned to read when he was near 100 years old, performed in the Global Virtual Classroom contest and placed third in their first year in the contest. This project was led by Julie Presley, the current technology teacher, and a student on the US division named Audrey Del Rosario. The Southlake/Carroll Dragons, the city's high school football team, is one of the best programs in America. The team won the "mythical" national championship in 2004, 2005, and 2006 with state chapionships in all three years as well as in 2002. Carroll football was voted the best dynasty in Texas high school history at the 2006 state championship game. Chase Daniel, the quarterback of the 2003 and 2004 Carroll seasons, is now the starting quarterback for the Missouri Tigers.
