Spanish Grand Prix - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (652 words)
The Spanish Grand Prix (Gran Premio de España) is a Formula One race currently held at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain as part of the annual Formula One championship season.
The very first Spanish Grand Prix in 1913 was not actually run to the Grand Prix formula of the day, but to touring car rules, taking place on a 300-kilometre road circuit at Guadarrama, near Madrid, on the road to Valladolid.
The 1990 Spanish Grand Prix was the last in Jerez (although Jerez did stage the European Grand Prix in 1994 and 1997).
GrandPrix.com > GP Encyclopedia > Circuits > Barcelona (Circuit de Catalunya) (965 words)
The outbreak of the Spanish Civil War in 1936 ended the racing and it was not until 1946 that another race was held on the streets of Barcelona, on a 3.9 mile circuit called Pedralbes.
It was not until 1966 that the Catalans revived the old Montjuich Park circuit, as a response to the construction of the Jarama circuit near Madrid.
Jarama hosted the Grand Prix that year but an agreement was reached for Montjuich to hold the race in 1969.
