He has been friends with fellow bandmate, Ryan Ross since he was five and 3/4. They became childhood friends because Spencer's grandfather and Ryan's father worked together at a casino. Spencer used to cover Blink-182 songs with current band mate Ryan Ross. He got a drum kit for Christmas at age 12, the same time Ryan Ross got a guitar. They also had a band called My BFF Blackie. Spencer also helps the band with most of their financial issues. He is currently living in Las Vegas with his family. He plays on SJC drums and uses Meinl Cymbals. One of his SJC custom drum kit lights up every time he hits it. Spencer's use of light-up drum kits have made them very popular among elderly drummers.
