NGC 1365 (nicknamed the Great Barred Spiral Galaxy) is a giant barred spiral galaxy about 60 million light-years away in the constellation Fornax. The galaxy recedes us at a speed of 1632 km/s. It has a diameter of 100,000 light-years across, making it a large galaxy in the Fornax cluster. It rotates clockwise (as seen from Earth). One revolution takes about 350 million years. Supernovae 2001du, 1983V, and 1957C were observed in NGC 1365. In astronomy, an epoch is a moment in time for which celestial coordinates or orbital elements are specified. ... The J2000. ... Astronomers classify galaxies based on their overall shape (elliptical, spiral or barred spiral) and further by the specific properties of the individual galaxy (for example degree of ellipse, number of spirals or definition of bar). ... Right ascension (RA; symbol α: Greek letter alpha; celestial longitude) is the astronomical term for one of the two coordinates of a point on the celestial sphere when using the equatorial coordinate system. ...
