Spring Valley is located at 29°47'23" North, 95°30'17" West (29.789727, -95.504774)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3.4 km˛ (1.3 mi˛). 3.4 km˛ (1.3 mi˛) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 3,611 people, 1,365 households, and 1,079 families residing in the city. The population density is 1,064.3/km˛ (2,755.0/mi˛). There are 1,410 housing units at an average density of 415.6/km˛ (1,075.7/mi˛). The racial makeup of the city is 94.79% White, 0.33% African American, 0.50% Native American, 2.96% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.69% from other races, and 0.69% from two or more races. 4.32% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 1,365 households out of which 39.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 70.4% are married couples living together, 7.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 20.9% are non-families. 18.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.65 and the average family size is 3.03.


In the city the population is spread out with 28.2% under the age of 18, 2.4% from 18 to 24, 28.8% from 25 to 44, 26.9% from 45 to 64, and 13.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 95.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 91.9 males.


The median income for a household in the city is $96,392, and the median income for a family is $109,020. Males have a median income of $86,963 versus $45,977 for females. The per capita income for the city is $44,912. 2.7% of the population and 1.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 3.0% of those under the age of 18 and 1.6% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.


Law and government

Currently the mayor of Spring Valley is Mike Andrews. Timothy P. Glanzman, Greg Herbst, Kyle R. Sears, Bruce Spain, and Tom J. Trammell currently serve as members of the city council.

Spring Valley, an incorporated residential community, is located north of Interstate Highway 10 and U.S. Highway 90 and south of the site of former Spring Branch at the edge of the Houston area in west central Harris County.
In 1982 Spring Branch High School was part of the community, and the Memorial Hall and Spring Branch elementary schools were nearby.
Spring Valley had a population of 3,004 and two businesses in 1960 and 3,800 residents in 1976.
