Springfield is a town located in Dane County, Wisconsin. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 2,762.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 94.2 km² (36.4 mi²). 93.8 km² (36.2 mi²) of it is land and 0.5 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.49% water.

Demographics

As of the census² of 2000, there are 2,762 people, 967 households, and 770 families residing in the town. The population density is 29.5/km² (76.3/mi²). There are 993 housing units at an average density of 10.6/km² (27.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 97.68% White, 0.54% African American, 0.07% Native American, 0.54% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.36% from other races, and 0.80% from two or more races. 0.72% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 967 households out of which 41.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 72.7% are married couples living together, 3.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 20.3% are non-families. 14.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 4.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.86 and the average family size is 3.20.
