This article is about the legendary creatures. For other uses of the word "sprite", see sprite (disambiguation).
The term sprite is a general term referring to a number of legendary creatures. The term may be used in reference to both elf-like creatures, including fairies and other similar creatures, and to spirits, including both ghosts and spiritual beings. The term is chiefly used in regards to European folklore. The word sprite is from 'spiritus' (spirit). Also called Spright or Spriggan (Celtic).
The belief in elf-like creatures remains predominantly within Scandinavian countries and within Neopagan movements such as "Druidry" and Ásatrú. The belief in ghosts and other spirits is found almost everywhere in the world. The belief that sprites do not exist at all is associated with Occam's razor, empiricism, atheism, and ontology.

A sprite trap is a magical device used to capture troublesome or harmful spirits and ghosts.
During a ritual process, the copper wire is bound to the stave with red thread and the stave is marked with a Dag (or D) rune.
After the sprite trap has captured a spirit, it is removed from the location and the red thread is cut with a consecrated knife; the thread is then placed into a prepared witch bottle.
Sprite comics are web comics that use video game sprites and backgrounds for their artwork.
Sprite comics are mainly used by creative people who cannot draw, or do not wish to draw, but want to express their creativity visually.
While the ease of creation (just slap some sprites made by someone else on a background, and add text bubbles) allows many low quality sprite comics to be made, there are many that show consistent high visual quality, both in use of custom sprites and graphic editing tools such as Photoshop.
