Squires Gate FC were founded in 1948 and were known as Squires Gate British Legion Club until 1953 when the name was amended.
Squires Gate enjoyed many happy years in the WLFL winning the Division Two title in 1980-1 and the Richardson Cup in 1987.Sqires Gate moved up to the North West Counties League in 1991-92and celebrated their golden jubilee in 1998 by reaching the final of the Division Two Trophy.
In season 2000-01 Gate won the Division Two Trophy and were promoted to Division One after finishing third in 2002 after Stand Athletic were denied promotion due to ground grading.
