Scheduling

Each school day lasts from 8:10 AM to 3:20 PM.

All students in sixth, seventh, and eighth grade take seven classes each day, divided into eight periods (including Lunch). One of these classes is a focus lesson, or 'Target Time' activity with a rotating academic teacher of theirs. Four academic classes in each subject are on each student's schedule. Students also take two exploratory lessons each day. Locker breaks are almost every two classes for students to retrieve books for their respective classes.

Core Academic Classes

Academic classes meet for a semester long, but usually stay the same for the whole year. There are four academic classes scheduled each day for a student, in the subjects English, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Science. Students are put in classes by academic level, and multiple classes include advanced and accelerated courses. Students in their English classes have an opportunity to take a course of the grade above them, one of which provide high school credit. Math students can take Pre-Algebra, Algebra, and Geometry. Algebra and Geometry provide for high school credit.

Core Exploratory Classes

Exploratories at St. James Middle meet for nine weeks, a semester, or year long.
