St. Mark's Place is a street in the East Village neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City. It is named after St. Mark's Church, which was built on Stuyvesant Street but is now on 10th Street. Today the street runs from Third Avenue to Avenue D, with a car-free section between Avenue A and B where it crosses Tompkins Square Park. The portion of the street between 3rd Avenue and Avenue B has long hosted alternative retailers, appealing particularly to suburban teenagers, and has a reputation as the hipster mecca of Manhattan.
