The Stadio Delle Alpi is a football and athletics stadium in the Italian city of Turin. It is currently used for matches by both Juventus and Torino Calcio; however, Torino is building a new ground of its own, which is expected to open in 2006. The stadium was built due to the reduction in size of the old ground, the Stadio Comunale, as well as for the 1990 World Cup. In typical game play, players attempt to move towards a goal through individual control of the ball, such as by dribbling (running with the ball close to their feet); by passing the ball from team-mate to team-mate; and by taking shots at the goal. ... Notes
The poor reputation of the Delle Alpi Stadium has lead to some embarrassing negative records regarding spectator interest - or rather the lack of it. These facts are especially hard to understand if it is considered that Juventus is one of the most popular soccer clubs in soccer-crazy Italy:
In the Coppa Italia home match against Sampdoria Genoa in the 2001-2002 season, only 237 spectators showed up.
In the Coppa Italia home match against Reggiana in 2002-2003, only 399 spectators showed up.
In another Coppa Italia home match, only 561 spectators showed up.
It is expected to be redeveloped into a smaller 50.000 seat stadium. This would entail the removal of the athletics track and making the spectators closer to the action. The StadiodelleAlpi was built due to the reduction in size of the Juve's old ground Stadio Comunale, as well as for the 1990 World Cup, in which the stadium hosted (among others) a memorable second round match between Argentina and Brazil, plus a semi-final between Germany and England.
The delleAlpi has a bad reputation among spectators; crowds complain that the stands are too far from the pitch due to a running track, and that the visibility in some areas is poor.
