Staf De Clercq (16 September1884 – 22 October1942) was a co-founder and leader of the Flemish nationalist Vlaamsch Nationale Verbond (Flemish National League, or VNV). He is mostly remembered for his fascist views, though to the current far-right extremists present in Belgium, he is somewhat a hero. Born Jeroom Gustaaf De Clercq in Everbeek. In 1936 his party gained 13.6% of Flemish votes, and in 1939 14.7%. He died in Ghent. About StafDeClercq (1884-1942), the much hated (by the Flemish people) leader of the Vlaams Nationaal Verbond (VNV), who collaborated enthousiasticly with the nazis, Dewinter says in Haaretz: "He is one of the historic leaders of the party.
This is part of the history of the Flemish nationalist movement and it is impossible to deny this.
Last year, on september 19th 2004, Voorpost, which is close to the VB, organised a grand StafDeClercq memorial, only a month after this collaboration leader was also praised at the Ijzerwake.
In het kort komt het erop neer dat de 3 worden veroordeeld (en daarmee het recht op subsidie dreigen te verliezen) omdat zij zich aan de criminele daden, het kennelijk en herhaaldelijk discriminatie of segregatie bedrijven of verkondigen, schuldig hebben gemaakt.
In Stolberg verloor zij haar zetel echter, nadat haar voormalige raadslid naar de NPD was overgestapt (ondanks dus de samenwerking van de twee partijen in de aanloop naar de landelijke verkiezingen in 2006).
De NPD wint ook flink; in Märken wonnen ze 8 zetels in 5 stadsraden, nog 4 raadszetels in gemeenteraden en 3 zetels in deelgemeentes.
