Stardust is a one-time musical collaborative effort consisting of producers Thomas Bangalter and Alan Braxe and vocalist Benjamin Diamond. The short-lived group released the immensely popular club track called "Music Sounds Better with You" in June of 1998. The song, which is based around a sample from "Fate" by Chaka Khan, was an instant smash, and many have dubbed it "The Greatest House Song of the Millennium". It was recorded in Paris by Daft House productions, of which Bangalter, one half of the popular French house duo Daft Punk, is head. Though Bangalter was offered three million dollars to produce a Stardust LP, the three members of the band parted ways after their highly auspicious debut, Diamond and Braxe to pursue solo careers, and Bangalter, along with his usual partner Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, to release Daft Punk's second album, Discovery, which marked the group's crossover into the realm of synth-pop. Notably, the song "Music Sounds Better With You" didn't have a video for several months after release. This was taken to advantage by British music programme The Chart Show, who had received requests to show old graphics before the show ended in August 1998, and they used the fact this song had no video to create a compilation of old graphics, backed by the song. A video was made for the song by Michel Gondry. The video is about an aesthetic boy who finally concinces his parents to buy him an advanced model airplane. Throughout the entire video, you see clips of the normal television music videos of what his father sees, and the video's of the star-people (bangalter) which only the boy can see. The boy focuses on building the plane over a few days, and once complete throws it in the air with excitement. The plane gets stuck on a cloud where three star-people (all Thomas Bangalter in costume) wearing white suits, silver boots, silver makeup, and sunglasses are watching. The star-people then decide to give the plane back, and the plane lands on the ground with a twinkle and shine. The star-people wave and leave, the boy waves, and the video ends with the viewer realizing he is a star seed.
