In 2000, at the age of 47, Shakespeare founded the Yougov web site with Nadhim Zahawi. One of YouGov’s claims to fame is that it called Labour’s ten-point general election victory in 2001 within one percentage point. Yougov is currently a sub-contractor to the US government in its information warfare operations in Iraq.


Shakespeare is reported to own 37 per cent of YouGov, a stake which is thought to be worth more than £5 million.
