Marshall received a BA from Queens College in New York, a MA in Curriculum and Philosophy from the University of Chicago, and a Ph.D. in Educational Administration and Industrial Relations from Loyola University of Chicago. She also holds an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters and an Honorary Doctorate of Sciences. Marshall served as President of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development International and is a member of the National Academy of Sciences Committee on Advanced Study of Mathematics and Science. She is a member of the State of the World Forum, and is a fellow in the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce in the UK.
