Steven Gilchrist (born July 7, 1954 in Toronto, Ontario) is a politician in Ontario, Canada. Gilchrist was re-elected again in the provincial election of 1999, defeating Liberal candidate Peter Vanderyagt by about 3,500 votes. Shortly after his appointment, Gilchrist was at the centre of a controversy perpetrated by the head of the development industry in Ontario. It was alleged that Gilchrist had suggested that payments made to his lawyer would facilitate meetings with his office.

During this controversy, it was also revealed that Gilchrist had been fined for tax evasion in 1984. In order to fight the allegation by the land developers, Gilchrist resigned from cabinet on October 25, 1999, and, on December 22, 1999, the Ontario Provincial Police completely cleared Gilchrist of any wrongdoing.
